LED Lights - Top Five Reasons For Installing LED Lights
As we become more aware of the effect that the use of electricity is having on our planet. So the more aware we're becoming of looking for ways to reduce our use. As a result of this the sale of LED bulbs has increased substantially in the last couple of years.
Today it's not just companies who're selecting to install such lighting but many homeowners as well.
Thus what are the reasons for so many us choosing to spend money on installing LED light bulbs rather than sticking with the incandescent and fluorescent ones?
Here we look more closely at the features of LED bulbs and which will show you why such lights are proving very popular nowadays.
Feature 1 - Luminous Flux
At the present time LED lights have the ability to produce a luminous flux of between 1 and 120 lumens. Therefore they need only to use power of between 50-100mW (MiliWatts) and 5W (Watts) to create the light they produce.
Feature 2 - Color and Color Temperature
Most of the LED bulbs you see nowadays emit a very natural white light which most of us see as being cold. But research is being carried out and in the future the lights will be able to produce a much warmer light which looks very similar to that which a conventional tungsten or halogen bulb produces.
Feature 3 - Life Span
As these lights use less energy to create the light they do not get as hot as regular light bulbs do and this therefore means that they last much longer. If you are willing to purchase high quality LED bulbs you will find that they will provide light for between 30 and 50,000 hours. Whereas you will sometimes expect a standard light bulb needing to be changed between 5 and 10,000 hours.
Feature 4 - Light Distribution
How intense the light distributed by those bulbs is will depend on the housing used and what sort of carrier or reflector has been used to place the semiconductor on. Surely the better quality these components then the more intense the light distributed will be. On average the amount of light emitted may vary drastically and the angle at which it is emitted varies also. In most bulbs the angle is only 15 degrees whilst in others it may be as much as 160 degrees.
Feature 5 - Energy Efficiency
These are considered to be among the most efficient form of lighting you could get today. At present most of these bulbs are able to emit around 30 lm/w of white light. But there're several now that have the capability of emitting 50 lm/w and perhaps at some point in the future some will be able to emit 100 lm/w. So it will not be very long before these types of bulbs have the ability to emit the quality of light that conventional light sources currently provide.
Due to all these features it will not be very long before you seen LED bulbs changing the a lot more inefficient types of lighting we use currently.
